Before the fire on New Year’s Eve 2019

On New Year’s Day 2020

We have been paid the insurance but it is too soon to decide whether to rebuild.

We are grateful that NSW Government has undertaken to clear all the blocks burned out but this work will not be finished before June 2020. To build to current fire resistant standards would cost more than our insured amount.

  1. Good morning Joan! Thank you for sharing the family story with me. I can’t imagine your sense of loss. The Magog property played such an important role in our childhoods and well into our adult lives. Deciding it was time to sell was difficult but the choice was ours. I’m sure the family time spent at your vacation home has many special memories. You will always have those. And now you will decide whether to rebuild or not. Again, thank you for all the work you’ve done in documenting the family history. All the very best, Susan

    1. Thanks Susan. I can’t tell you how pleased I am – Jenny too! that you, David and John are now following the web page. I hope to add some more info during this year, including David’s input about the Magog house. I think a piece about family holiday places would be well worth some coverage. My parents built two places – one on the South Coast of NSW in the 1960s and after they moved to Adelaide, Mum got busy again in the 1970s and built a Canadian style cabin near the ski fields in Victoria. We had some memorable times in both places. All the best to you.
